Single-Origin Arabica Coffee from the High Altitudes of Sarawaget Range, Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea
1. Rehabilitation & Maintenance
We work directly with smallholder coffee farmers in villages to rehabilitate their gardens. Under the PPAP project, we rehabilitated 742 gardens totalling 112,000 coffee trees in Erap, Morobe. Many of these gardens were old, and planted in the 1960's, and over-grown with shade and neglected. We also distribute tools and materials like bush/grass knives, files, spades, secateurs, and pruning saws to do pruning and shade control, drainage, replanting of dead trees, etc.
2. Nurseries & New Seedlings
We establish nurseries, provide training and distribute coffee seedlings to farmers. Under the PPAP project, we setup 8x nurseries, one each in each village in Erap, and distributed a total of 216,860 coffee seedlings. Each farmer received 270 seedlings each. The varieties we promote are Typica, Arusha and Mundonovo, all well suited to the high altitudes tropical cool climates of PNG. Farmers then harvest and sell their dry parchment coffee to our own mill.
3. Processing, Drying and Quality
We trained farmers on how to identify and harvest only fully red-ripe cherries, and best practices in pulping, fermentation, washing, and drying. Under the PPAP project, we supplied 407 coffee pulpers, built 547 solar drying beds, built 3x mini wet-mills with 35 kg/hr capacity, and distributed items such as coffee film rolls, raised-bed wire drying frames, etc.
5. Dry Mill Processing Facilities
We own a 1 ton/hr capacity (480,000 kgs/year) dry mill coffee factory. It provides milling service and market for coffee farmers in Morobe, and regional areas like Oro, East/West New Britain, Madang, Sepik and Highlands. Milling service is for only for grower groups and co-operatives who can provide huge volumes. We can also help process your coffee and export to our markets in Europe, Australia, United States, Asia and Pacific.
4. Marketing & Growers Support
We provide marketing support to farmers, these includes; group marketing arrangements; organic certification of growers with NASSA, USDA, Fairtrade and 4C organic certification bodies; buying and milling service at our own 1 ton/hr capacity dry mill coffee factory; providing transport and logistics support; and business support to coffee SME's.
